Irad Ben Isaak befasst sich in seiner Dissertation mit jiddischen Bildungsromanen, die in der Zeit zwischen der zweiten Hälfte des 19. Jahrhunderts und der Zwischenkriegszeit in Mittel- und Osteuropa entstanden sind. Anhand der Romane von Mendele Moicher Sforim, Scholem Alejchem, David Bergelson und anderen setzt er sich mit der Frage auseinander, wie die jüdische bzw. jiddische Kultur die soziale, emotionale und moralische Entwicklung einer jungen Person dargestellt hat und welche Rolle dabei die transnationale Wirkung der Aufklärung und das Schreiben aus der diasporischen Existenz heraus gespielt haben.
Irad Ben Isaak ist Doktorand des Selma Stern Zentrums für Jüdische Studien Berlin-Brandenburg am Axel Springer-Lehrstuhl für deutsch-jüdische Literatur- und Kulturgeschichte, Exil und Migration der Europa-Universität Viadrina in Frankfurt (Oder).
Er hat an der Freien Universität Berlin Soziologe mit Schwerpunkt europäischen Gesellschaften studiert. Seinen Masterstudiengang in Jiddischer Literatur an der Tel Aviv Universität schloss er 2017 mit einer Studie zur Poetik und Kulturaktivismus des Jiddischen Schreibers Melech Rawitsch, die 2019 im SUNY Press New York publiziert wird.
Am ZJS beteiligt sich Irad Ben Isaak in einer Forschungsgruppe zum Thema „Literarische Praktiken der Verflechtung: Jüdisches Schreiben in der europäischen Diaspora (19. und 20. Jahrhundert)“ unter der Leitung von Dr. Michaelis-König.
