This talk will discuss the work of a group of medievalists, based in Jerusalem, who study the Jews of medieval Ashkenaz (Germany and northern France). They taught their sources and research to seven Israeli artists and created an exhibit that featured in Jerusalem and in Erfurt over the past three years. The talk will discuss how envisioning the medieval sources in space gave way to new insights and study and how situating the art first in Israel and then in Erfurt, a space where medieval Jews lived and left records, allowed for new research questions. The talk will focus on the daily lives of Jews and on interactions between Jews and Christians within urban spaces.
